This page includes large backdrops for stage and also public installations. I worked with a dance school for 11 years designing and painting their full stage backdrops for yearly performances in South Saint Paul, Minnesota.
The tent structure is a reading tent for the Flint Hills International Children's Festival in downtown Saint Paul funded by the Ordway Theater.
After 911 I designed and painted a labyrinth and 14 large paintings of world culture and healing at the U of Minnesota Center for Spirituality and Healing. The project was organized by Dr. Jean M. Larson.

These are backdrop images from 12 years working for Julianne Oster. We have a combined effort to showcase her choreography with a scene that represents both the mood of the dance and often individual elements from specific songs or routines. It is magical to work with someone so talented. Her ceaseless energy and positive input with artistic direction of these commissions produces a great season finale for the dance school of 3 year olds to adults.

I have been painting the backdrops for a dance school for the last 11 years. Here is a detail of 2010 backdrop with black background and glowing creatures, fairies and flying butterflies and moths, lightening bugs using glow in the dark paint which was apparent under various stage lighting and with black out scene changes. This was painted soon after 9/11 as a peace memorial. There is one large labyrinth with four 4’ x 4’ paintings of elements on each corner intended to be used by students, patients and caregivers of the school and working hospital. Across the remaining expanse of this cement ‘greened’ patio are 10 other 4’ x 4’ paintings representing world medicines, a painted Japanese Garden and a hawk and dove as entrance guides.

Five world cultures of healing were painted each on a four foot cement courtyard surface. Celtic woman with yew tree.
African shamanism with dancing feet and clapping hands and small termite mound labyrinth.
The four corners of the labyrinth were painted with the four elements. Standing rock with fire and the Ginko leaf which represents endurance and is one of the oldest prehistoric trees.
Japanese garden low lying snow lantern lights the way while its broad top surface shows off the beautiful snowfall.
